Charters Towers in English

It’s time for a ‘little’ outback now. We are in Charters Towers situated 135km south-west of Townsville, with a population of almost …..10 000 ( whow !), however it was the second biggest town in Queensland during the Gold Age. It was just nothing here since three guys from Europe with help of local horse boy found gold. From 1871, and until 1911, some seven million ounces of gold were extracted from the region. The enormous gold reserves prompted the building of Australia's first regional stock exchange ( restored stock building photo you may find in the provided link ). Couple of hotels, banks and public buildings ( like Civic Men’s Club ) of that era are still in use today giving us some ideas of what life must have been like back in the boom times. A lot of attractions like: first dinner in the restaurant since … long time - Chinese buffet at 13A$ per person and you can eat as much as you can and Rodeo … hmmm something very special and unique ( some people call it the local folklore ). We spent all day watching horses, bulls and cowboys/girls trying to do very strange things with their lasso, but the most exciting competition was to stay on the really big bull for more than x sec. How they are doing it I have no clue , but they can stay on top of it like 10-15sec and then fly to the moon. I tried to take some photos, but it was not possible, I was too slow.
