It’s the largest National Park in NZ located in the south corner ( brrr.. it’s cold here ) contains fiords. Having internet access at the camping we could find out a good weather window ( on Monday morning ) to see what is described everywhere as the amazing experience. We stayed at Te Anau 120km from Milford Sound - the most accessible fiord here. Starting early morning from Te Anau we could see all the clouds and fog going up and giving us the full visibility of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Fiords here are a little bit different than in Norway, can you imagine almost 2000m picks surrounding 500m wide and 14km long fiord ? It’s difficult but it’s how it is , in addition to almost vertical granite walls - with trees ! and snow on the top there are number of waterfalls falling dawn directly to the sea. Great experience, just amazing. It’s number one on our ‘best view’ list. Our good weather window is closed now, so some rain and cold at night ( was +2C close to Mt Cook ), but we don’t give up and have just arrived to the Mt. Cook National Park. Mt. Cook it’s one of the 27 glaciers higher than 3050m on the island , we are at 500m above sea level, close to the turquoise ( not blue ) lake having 3750m peak in front of our camper. It will be the next amazing experience I think.
PS
Hobbits and Elfs should be somewhere here, just we cannot find them !
