Driving around Bali

Not so many overseas ( read white ) drivers you can find here, but as our skin is almost like locals we are brave and do our best . It’s not very complicated, everything you need is: local map ( 1cm = 1km ), good reflex, eyes around your head, adroit hands in case locals cannot speak English ( we met three speaking so far) and you have to forget everything you learned about the road rules so far. Anyway you cannot drive faster than 60km/h even having a good car as we have. I have very experienced guide so comments like : 1,5cm and it should be left turn going directly to the rice fields … are very common and helpful. After one day exploring inland ( active volcano ) we arrived to the north of Bali. Honestly we see a huge contrast between commercial ( touristic ) places and everything around. It’s like two extremes: luxury and poverty, but all people here are smiling and look happy. Anyway we stayed at the nice resort in Lovina - own cottage, two swimming pools, black sand beach, breakfast included …. 30$ and explored everything around. We have been in the National Park close to Java snorkeling around small island couple of hours, it was almost as good as in Australia. We had extremely good weather so even our skin should be sun resistant we look like one side cooked lobsters now. We have seen giant tree ( I could walk inside ) and wonderful waterfalls in the deep rain forest. On our way back to South ( Ubud again ) we saw the local ceremony ( something like harvest home I do believe ), hundreds of people caring goods to the temple, decorations from all kind of food including pork fat… just have a look at pictures below.

  1. its great that you have the time to actually see the real island and not just the tourist vision of it. hope that the lobster has toned down a bit and isn't too hot. I know what red skin feels like - tingly!!!
