As advised in the net we ordered the bus service from 4000 Islands directly to Phnom Phen in Cambodia. We had limited information what we may expect at the border, but together with around 40 foreigners in the bus we were quite optimistic. It was easy and well organized, the first desk was called ‘Lao check out’ we had to put 1$ per passport to the special suitcase and we got the stamp that we crossed Lao’s border successfully , then we walked 100m to the Cambodian border where we found the second desk called ‘healthy check’ where the second suitcase waited for us. This time they checked if we don’t have fever ( not sure how, but a lot of things are magic here ) , it cost 1$ per person as well, fortunately we were healthy. It should not be a big surprise that after 50m we found the third desk called ‘ visa application’, they asked about one photo, one visa application, official 23$ visa fee and the small suitcase waited for us as well… 1$ per person more and we had got visa ‘on-line’. Why some countries still keeping an expensive computer based visa systems? It’s so simple, you just need 3 suitcases and everybody are happy ! We had an excellent bus service to capital ( Rambo, John Rambo, Fist blood, King Kong and local Karaoke ) and we arrived on time late evening. Phnom Phen is unbelievable city, only 20 years ago it was a ghost city as the Rouge Khmers threw away all inhabitants for 54 months and today we see more Lexuses than in London ! In addition you can pay in the local currency ( Riel ) or in $ without any problems …. I think Poland will join Euro zone in 2016. Going to the Angkor Wat tomorrow.
